The US Consumer News and Business Channel recently reported that the United States is considering imposing tariffs of up to 100% on more EU products.

It is reported that the Office of the United States Trade Representative recently released a list of various EU products including Irish whiskey, Scotch whisky and French brandy, saying that the United States is considering imposing tariffs of up to 100% on these products.

At the beginning of October this year, the WTO judged that because the EU and some of its member states have not fully implemented the previous judgement of the WTO dispute settlement agency, they still provide illegal subsidies to Airbus. The United States would have the right to impose tariffs and other measures on about $7.5 billion a year in goods and services from the European Union.

That month, the US announced a 10% tariff on EU large civil aircraft, a 25% tariff on EU agricultural products and other products, and said that the US has the right to further increase the tariff or adjust the scope of products affected by the tariff. In this regard, many European countries have expressed strong opposition, saying that Europe is prepared to retaliate within the WTO framework.

The US-European air subsidy dispute has a long history. In 2004, the United States filed a lawsuit with the WTO, accusing the European Union of providing illegal subsidies to Airbus in various forms.

The EU subsequently also sued the WTO against the US government for providing illegal subsidies to Boeing. In this regard, the WTO has ruled that the United States and the European Union have the problem of providing illegal subsidies to their aviation companies.
